A number of intitial work items have been
identified during the XMP-Open summits.
A lead has been assigned for each activity.
If you are interested in participating, contact Dianne Kennedy.
Case Studies
Understanding how XMP can be used to provide
a specific benefit will not only assist
Adobe to understand how the industry hopes
to use XMP but will assist the XMP-Open user
community to better understand specific
business benefits that can be realized by employing XMP-based technology.
Case Studies will capture and document real-world examples of XMP in use today.
Proof-of-Concept
Proof-of-Concepts will be developed by a subcommittee
of XMP-Open. Case studies will provide a demonstration
of XMP functionality and will help the user community
understand how XMP can be implemented.
Use Cases
Use Cases are a technique to capture functional
requirements for XMP and XMP implementations.
Developing a standard “Use Case” format will
be the first order of business. Developing the following use cases will be of first priority:
- Managing video assets
- XMP-based Rights Management
- A standard XMP solution for unsupported file types
- XMP for Preservation/Achiving
- XMP-enabled print production
Second priority use cases include:
- XMP for media capture
- XMP for composite images/media
- XMP for multi-channel delivery
- System interchange of XMP
Documenting the XMP Value Stack
Joshua Duhl re-introduced the idea of the XMP Value Stack
at the last Summit as a way to educate adopters about
the role of XMP and its benefits. Documenting the
Value Stack was adopted as a work item with Joshua serving as the lead.
XMP Best Practices
One of the resources that could be very valuable for a
user community is the development and formalization
of XMP Best Practices. These will evolve and
most likely be developed via the WIKI.
XMP Cookbook
An XMP “cookbook” will be designed to assist
implementers in getting started with XMP.
Because the Use Cases will be closely tied to Cook Book
content, this project will begin following the submission
of initial use cases. We can “publish” the cookbook recipes
as they are developed, so this will be an ongoing project.
XMP Schema Registry
work item to establish an online registry for
XMP Schemas was initiated. The feeling of the group
is that having some “starter” sets of XMP Schemas
in addition to the schemas that are built into CS
would go a long way toward elimination the barriers to entry.
XMP-Open Experts Community
A final work item is to organize an XMP-Open Expert community through
establishing an XMP training and certification program for consultants
and industry professionals and launching a collaborative XMP website
to assist those implementing XMP-based media solutions.
Action: Gunar Penikis to develop a 90-minute
XMP introduction and overview for a Connect Session.
Dianne Kennedy will apply the IDEAlliance G7 model to develop an integrated
XMP Experts program.
